I wanted a canister type vacuum because my house has a mix of hardwood, tile, rugs and carpet so uprights just don't have the flexibility. But regular canister vacs drive me nuts their little wheels are always jamming or getting caught on the edge of a rug etc... I was pretty much sold on the idea of a backpack vacuum as soon as I saw them on Amazon. This one is pretty much everything I was wanting.
Now this vac is basically a commercial unit rejigged for home use and is missing some of the features you'd expect like a retractable cord, a motorized head etc... but makes up for it with an enormous amount of vacuum power, low noise and an extremely light package.
Good:
* Very light
* Very quiet, much quieter than the Kenmore canister I had prior to this.
* Telescoping steel tube

It has not been 6 months since I got it. The bags are hard to find, the suction is good though, but the tools for hard floors suck! I have to get a tools set because it scratches the floor after a while. I would definitely not purchase another vacuum like this! I'd rather pay more for better quality!

Great Vac for real., October 27, 2011 This review is from: GV 8 Qt Light Powerful BackPack Vacuum Loaded (Kitchen) I have used the GV 8 quart backpack vacuum quite extensively, and I have found it very unique. The fact that I plug it in once and am able to walk around my entire upstairs without tripping over or tugging at a heavy vacuum is very convenient. I have three bedrooms with deep pile and sculpted carpeting; I also have extensive hardwood flooring throughout my living room and dining room area but my kitchen and basement are tiled. For the carpets I used the air turbine, power-head and it picks up even dug-in lint and fuzz. For the hard floors I use the switchable floor tool; the high brush setting works best on the wood floors, and the low brush setting works great on tile. The vacuum is quiet and the attachments on the waist belt allow me to switch tools quickly, I don't have to go looking for my knife edge or round brush tool when I clean around the side boards. All in all the GV 8 is a great, powerful vacuum and I never smell leaked dust due to the Hepa filtration system.
