Works well-good price - awkward design, January 26, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Dirt Devil SD40020 Jaguar Bagged Canister with Power Brush (Kitchen) Bought this vacuum to handle our 2200SF 2 story house. We have 4 kids & a chocolate lab (think dirt, crumbs & dog hair). The entire lower story of our house is wooden floors & large area rugs.
Overall - we like this vacuum & are glad we got it. The power nozzle works well & the front end fits under our large sectional - which is a bonus. The vacuum is plastic with metal parts - but I'm fine with that. I dont want to spend $800 for a vacuum just so I can have metal parts.
Ok - my complaint is that the handle (the part where you push it) isnt very well designed. I feel like I am fighting to get the power head to go straight. The onboard tools are awkwardly placed. They are literally on a little ledge right in the middle of the metal tube. They dont necessarily get in the way - but they are awkward & if you're fighting with the power nozzle direction - they do fall off in the ruckus.

There were no reviews of this on the site when I bought it. It waa one of the lowest priced with a beater head so I took a chance. It is a plastic vacuum cleaner and sees light duty around one room in our home (a room with 2 cats in it). It has good suction, several attachments and the type R bags are available on other web sites at very low prices. Overall cleaning is good with the power nozzle. I would recommend it for light duty. It isn't anywhere the quality of our Meile Calisto but we paid 5 to 6 X's the price for it. We have an old Kenmore that was somewhere in between these extremes and is also a fine canister vac. We had Electrolux before these and when it got older it broke down a lot so we stopped buying them. I will write another review when we have had it for many months. Oh be careful with Hoover we got horribly burned by them see my negative review of their piece of junk.

And the head/broom connection is a bit wobbly as reported in other reviews. I wouldn't have bought it if I had tried it out first in a store, but probably won't bother to return it as the price is right and the suction variable speed and on/off brush action enables me to vacuum thinner rugs that would otherwise just get sucked up by other vacuums. At least I no longer have to pick up and shake rugs when I vacuum.
